1983 Domaine Marquis d'Angerville Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Ducs #166280332
Reviews 18 points Jancis Robinson "There are some great surprises among 1983s. Harvest 2 October, yield 19 hl/ha, pH 3.52. Fairly deep ruby. Smells clean enough. Fresh and lively with a real grip and life. Savoury. But not in any way rotten. Long and liquorice. A bit pinched initially but it opened out. (JR)"

About Domaine Marquis d'Angerville
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville had long sold grapes to negociants, but it wasn’t until the 1920s that it began to produce its own wine. Sem d’Angerville had grown frustrated with negociants’ blending techniques and became one of Burgundy’s first to estate bottle his wines. Jacques, Sem’s son, would then spend the next half-century building up the Domaine’s prestige through immaculate farming and cellar work.
Today, Jacques’ son Guillaume leads the Estate and carries on the non-interventionalist winemaking style passed down from Sem. Burghound wine critic Allen Meadows described Guillaume’s winemaking technique as “minimalist in the extreme,” which undoubtedly contributes to the wines’ trademark elegance, complexity, and great length. The Domaine’s most highly regarded wine is from their treasured monopole, Clos du Ducs, which features all the power, structure, and complexity you might expect from any recognized Grand Cru!
