Reviews 93 points Wine Advocate "The 2014s are more elegant, silky and streamlined, yet offer classic characters and will evolve gracefully. Similar to the Renaissance, with tons of cedary spice, pepper, iron, beef blood, crushed rock and new saddle leather, the 2014 Cornas is medium to full-bodied, nicely concentrated and structured, with ripe, present tannin. (JD)" 94 points Vinous "Bright purple. Powerful, smoke-accented black and blue fruit, candied flowers, licorice, olive and Indian spices on the deeply perfumed nose. Sappy, concentrated and seamless on the palate, offering alluringly sweet blackberry, cherry compote, violet pastille and spicecake flavors that show excellent clarity and mineral lift. Expressive and surprisingly lithe given its depth, finishing with building tannins and impressive, blue-fruit-dominated persistence. (JR)"

Domaine Auguste Clape of Cornas

About Domaine Auguste Clape

Auguste Clape is a name synonymous with the rich and powerful wines of Cornas, a true legend among winemakers with some of the finest vineyard holdings in the entire village. Today, Auguste's son Pierre-Marie and grandson Olivier are continuing the legacy, carrying on the winemaking traditions that Robert Parker has deemed "the reference point for the appellation" (WA).

These traditional Cornas wines are crafted from old vines grown on steep, hand-tended vineyards, lending their deep, characteristic flavors to the wines. The grapes are picked at optimal ripeness, yielding a wine that can almost be mistaken for coming from Southern France.

Clape was a pioneer in Cornas, being the first to bottle his own wine in 1957. These Syrah masterpieces are known for their dark berry, black olive, dried herb, smoke, and violet flavors when young and develop deep complexity and velvety texture with age. These wines are a must-try for any wine enthusiast, and we highly recommend them.
