About Enfield Wine Co.

Enfield Wine Co., a labor of love for the husband-wife duo John Lockwood and Amy Seese, is a testament to wines brimming with individuality. Steering clear from the concept of a "perfect wine," this venture amplifies the narrative that each vintage is unique unto itself.

The wines embody Enfield's soil-first philosophy, curated from vineyards possessing an unambiguous and potent sense of place. The focus is on small vineyards and autonomous growers, every step meticulously taken to enhance terroir characteristics. A balanced harvest allows for natural fermentation, giving the wines a genuine expression of their origin.

Enfield's repertoire ranges from refreshingly mineral-rich everyday wines, to the unconventional and strikingly age-worthy wines from California's classic regions. Each creation holds a distinctive story, reflecting the personality of the terroir it originates from.

Lockwood, having weathered a grape-weeding high school summer job in Vermont and an apprenticeship under guitar builder Master Luthier in Oakland, he eventually ventured into California's wine industry in 2004. His journey traversed through Heron Lake vineyard with David Mahaffey, harvests at Littorai, Bodega Melipal in Argentina, and an extensive tenure at Failla Wines, managing their Sonoma Coast and Russian River vineyards. Enfield was born in 2010, initially as a side-project during his time at Failla, before becoming a full-time commitment in 2013.

Their vineyards cover an array of locations and conditions: the remote Chalone in the Gavalon Mountains, organically farmed Antle and Brosseau Vineyards known for their limestone soils, the deep cobblestone terrain of Haynes Vineyard farmed by Fernando Delgado, and the organically managed Heron Lake with its quartz-ridden volcanic soil. The winery also sources from Jesus and Patricia’s Vineyard, with its blend of Bordeaux varietals and the diverse microclimates of Shake Ridge Vineyard.

Overall, Enfield Wine Co. epitomizes a symbiotic relationship between diverse vineyards and uncompromising winemaking, producing a spectrum of distinct and character-rich wines.
