About Domaine de la Grande Colline (Jonathan Jacquart)

At the very top of the Cornas hill sits Domaine de la Grande Colline. Originally owned by natural winemaking legend Hirotake Ooka, the Domaine is now in the hands of former sommelier Jonathan Jacquart and Thierry Allemand. Jonathan has been given free rein over the winemaking and vineyards, and early results are incredibly promising. He’s increased the biodiversity among the vines and introduced silvopasture. And in the cellar, he’s maintained the hands-off philosophy, with a new focus on consistency using techniques and standards learned at Rayas and Allemand. Native, whole-cluster ferments are the norm, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs. Aging takes place in used oak, procured from Dujac, another of Jonathan’s stages. Sulfur is used only at bottling. Bottled with a Vin de France designation, this remains unquestionably Cornas, with dark brambly fruit, peppery spice, and incredible aromatics, all on a lighter, more elegant frame.
