Situated on the southward-facing hills outside of Rablay-sur-Layon, Anjou, is Domaine Dominique Dufour, an intimate vineyard tended by a former airplane engineer turned vigneron, Dominique Dufour. Covering a mere 0.73 hectares of Chenin Blanc, this once-family plot has been transformed into a boutique wine production with an intense focus on biodynamic care and low-intervention practices.
Dominique's vineyard might be small, but it's a labor of love. Hand-tended like an immaculate garden, yields are consciously limited to just 15-20 hl/ha, resulting in concentrated, complex juices that exude pure, vibrant character. His meticulousness extends to the winemaking, with a strict zero-sulfite policy instituted in 2018, ensuring the utmost purity in each bottle.
The estate's production is limited to a singular annual cuvée, Experto, a dry Chenin Blanc with expressive notes of exotic fruit, chamomile, baking spices, and an earthy minerality, with ripeness precisely counterbalanced by zesty acidity. In particularly fruitful years, a late-harvested Chenin Nectar d'Empyrée is produced, radiating a honeyed tropical profile coupled with smoky notes and a mouthwatering freshness.
