Guillaume Lavollée in the vineyard

About Domaine Genot-Boulanger

Domaine Génot-Boulanger, established in the heart of the Côte de Beaune in Meursault by Charles-Henri Génot and Marie Boulanger in 1974, holds a diverse portfolio of vineyard sites. By 1998, the estate had amassed approximately 22 hectares across 30 appellations, spanning the Côte de Beaune, Côte de Nuits, and Côte Chalonnaise.

Steered by Aude Lavollée, daughter of François Delaby, and her husband, Guillaume, the domaine has undertaken significant shifts in viticulture and winemaking. They are staunch advocates for organic farming and experiment with biodynamic practices, focusing on healthy soils to yield high-quality fruit. They also introduced horse-drawn plowing in smaller plots, finding positive outcomes in soil health.

In the cellar, a minimalist approach ensures the unique terroirs are highlighted. Each parcel is treated individually, following its own path and timeline to the final wine. The whites undergo whole cluster pressing, and fermentation in barrels using native yeasts, with about 20-30% new oak employed. Aging is carried out without lees stirring to prevent premature aging. Reds undergo fermentation in tanks with native yeasts. The use of whole clusters depends on the vintage and site. After fermentation, the wine ages in oak barrels for 12 months, with an average of 20% new oak. The wines are then racked to tank for further aging before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Unique in Burgundy, Génot-Boulanger exclusively produces wines from their own vineyards. Their holdings span the breadth of Burgundy, with the majority located in Côte de Beaune. Noteworthy vineyard sites include Chambolle-Musigny, Pommard Vieilles Vignes, Pommard 1er Cru Clos Blanc, Beaune 1er Cru Les Greves, Mercurey 1er Cru Sazenay, Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre, Clos de Vougeot, and an array of premium Chardonnay sites, including Meursault Les Vireuils, Meursault Clos du Cromin, Puligny Montrachet Nosroyes, Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne, Savigny Les Beaune 1er Cru Les Vergelesses Blanc, Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Vergers, Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Folatieres, Meursault 1er Cru Boucheres, and Corton Charlemagne.

Each of these holdings demonstrates Génot-Boulanger's commitment to meticulous farming and winemaking, resulting in wines that express finesse and the unique character of their individual terroirs.
