Our Notes

Founded in 1981 by Joel Hudelot and his wife Chantal Baillet, Domaine Hudelot-Baillet is located solely within Chambolle-Musigny. In 1998, Dominque Le Guen, son-in-law and eventual heir joined the winery and has since been developing the quality and style of the wines to an enviable level. Christophe Roumier has declared Le Guen as a"vigneron to watch"within the appellation. From vines averaging between 60-75 years old, the grapes are destemmed at the winery upon arrival then go through a brief cool pre-fermentation maceration before being crushed. Aging occurs in a mix of new and 1-2 year oak barrels.

Reviews 92-94 points Vinous "...has a clean, precise bouquet of perfumed, floral black cherry and black currant aromas, laced with violet. The palate is very well balanced with succulent tannins, supremely well-judged acidity and a very tender, persistent finish. Very classy and highly recommended. (NM)"

About Domaine Hudelot-Baillet

Located in the heart of the esteemed Côte de Nuits region, nestled in the petite yet highly reputed commune of Chambolle-Musigny, Domaine Hudelot-Baillet stands as an embodiment of meticulous Burgundian winemaking tradition. Noted for its adherence to the Lutte raisonnée, a practice that stresses sustainable, methodical viticulture, the domaine has always prioritized vineyard stewardship. Its carefully managed vineyard holdings, totaling 8.5 hectares, are evenly distributed across three communes within the Hautes Côtes de Nuits, cultivating both red and white grape varieties.

In 2004, Joel Hudelot-Baillet, who had taken charge of the domaine in 1981 following his father, retired and entrusted the responsibility to his son-in-law, Dominique Le Guen. Le Guen, who joined the domain in 1998 with a background as an air force technician, has skillfully honed his winemaking craft over the years.

Emphasizing the unique character of each appellation, Le Guen's winemaking process involves careful grape sorting and destemming without crushing. A cold pre-maceration period lasting about 8 days aids in maximizing flavor extraction. After that, he initiates the fermentation process with punching down, later transitioning to pumping over, and he utilizes a delestage method, which aids in drawing tannins from the grape skins and not the pips. Depending on the wine, 30-50% new oak barrels are used for aging, with an élevage period ranging from 12 to 18 months. This intricate process culminates in robust, deep-colored wines that exude rich fruitiness, finesse, and power, quintessential characteristics of Chambolle-Musigny wines.

Under the leadership of Le Guen, Domaine Hudelot-Baillet has continued to evolve and refine, producing wines emblematic of their terroir and a testament to the domaine's unwavering commitment to quality and elegance.
