About Moreau-Naudet & Fils

When it comes to elite Chablis, there are two well-known names at the top. We propose that there’s actually a third name to add to the list: Domaine Moreau-Naudet. With winemaking roots dating back to the 17th century, they’re no newcomers, but it’s within the last two decades that this estate has become a go-to address for dense, mineral-laden chardonnay. From their entry-level wines to their Grand Cru, these are thrilling, vibrant wines that never disappoint. With low production levels, they’ve been a bit of a Somm secret, but their reputation continues to grow, and critics have now caught up, including Willing Kelley of Wine Advocate, which declared: "This is one of Chablis's finest estates, and the domaine deserves to be much better known."

Stephane Moreau was the driving force behind this estate’s renaissance. Taking the reins in 1999, he overhauled and improved every aspect of the production, from a conversion to organic farming to how long the wines age. Inspired by the intensity and depth of wines from producers like Dauvissat and Dagueneau, Stephane lowered yields in search of perfectly ripe grapes from their old vines. In the cellar, native fermentations are the rule now, as are long maturations. Wines age on the lees between 18-22 months, with roughly one-third seeing gentle oak. These are wines of texture and concentration, framed by fine acidity and filigreed structure. Stephane passed unexpectedly in 2016, and since then, his wife Virginie and assistant winemaker Coco have carried the torch, continuing to make the same compelling and detailed wines which earned the domaine their reputation.
