Dugat-Py is a historic, family-owned estate based at the foot of the Combe de Lavaux in Gevrey-Chambertin, with roots in the village that stretch back more than four centuries. Founded in its modern form in 1975 by Bernard Dugat, the domaine entered a new chapter when his son Loic Dugat joined in 1996 and later assumed full control. Today, Dugat-Py is defined by an extraordinary collection of old vines, many ranging from 65 to more than 100 years of age, spread across some of Gevrey’s most pedigreed village, premier cru, and grand cru sites. Nearly every wine in the lineup carries a Vieilles Vignes or Tres Vieilles Vignes designation, reflecting both the age of the vines and the estate’s long-term focus on depth and longevity.
Viticulture is at the core of the domaine’s identity. Certified biodynamic since 2003, Dugat-Py farms with an emphasis on deep rooting and vine resilience, using homemade biodynamic preparations, high-trained canopies, and horse plowing in many top sites. Loic has steadily expanded the estate’s holdings of old vines through careful acquisitions, while preserving genetic diversity through massale selection of Pinot Fin. This meticulous vineyard work allows the vines to naturally regulate yields and better withstand climatic extremes, producing fruit of exceptional concentration without sacrificing balance.
In the cellar, the wines have evolved quietly but decisively. While Dugat-Py was once synonymous with sheer power, Loic has refined the style toward greater transparency and precision, reducing new oak, favoring infusion over extraction, and allowing sites to speak more clearly. Fermentations are handled without chaptalization, acidification, or inoculation, and the wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, with minimal sulfur added only before bottling. The result is a range of wines that remain deeply structured and built for the cellar, yet now show a new level of clarity, freshness, and finesse. These are modern expressions of a historic domaine, and among the most compelling wines being produced in contemporary Burgundy.
"…these are bottles that number among the finest that contemporary Burgundy has to offer." - William Kelley, Wine Advocate
