Domaine Leflaive
Beyond the prestige of its ethereal, world-class wines, Domaine Leflaive distinguishes itself as one of the earliest pioneers of biodynamic farming—particularly notable in Burgundy, where humid winters make these practices especially difficult. Never one to run from a challenge, Anne-Claude Leflaive started experimenting in 1990. With 10 hectares of premier cru vineyards and five hectares of grand crus, the risks were huge, but by 1997, the improvements were so convincing, she converted all 24 hectares to biodynamics, encouraging producers from around the world to follow suit.
After Anne-Claude’s passing in 2015, her nephew Brice de la Morandière took the reins and carried on the tradition of imbuing the incredible minerality of the family’s terroirs into fine wines. Long, traditional vinifications in oak, followed by time in stainless steel define the house style, with only a light stirring of the lees, 12 months aging in 25% new oak, a winter of clarification in stainless steel, followed by bottling in the spring. Expressive, balanced and almost otherworldly, Domaine Leflaive’s wines offer great soul and depth.
