Few grapes capture the soul of Italy like Nebbiolo. With soaring aromatics, vivid red fruit, and structure built for aging, great Barolo and Barbaresco are among the most compelling wines in the world.
I'm excited to share a curated lineup that spans the full range of what Nebbiolo can deliver—from the exceptional value of Poderi Colla’s traditional Barolo to the lifted, elegant expressions of Rosanna Sandri, and culminating in the benchmark, age-worthy, 100-point Barolos of Bartolo Mascarello.
----
Poderi Colla – Barolo Dardi Le Rose
A legendary winemaker and a historic site. Beppe Colla—who made the first-ever single-cru Barolo from Bussia in 1961—founded Poderi Colla in 1994 and returned to his roots with vines in Dardi Le Rose. His 2018 is a pitch-perfect, deeply expressive representation of place and vintage.
2018 Poderi Colla Barolo Dardi Le Rose Bussia – 91 VN
"The 2018 is laced with dark fruit, smoke, menthol, tobacco, licorice and a host of balsamic-infused nuances that are such a signature... its balance is impeccable."

Rosanna Sandri – Barbaresco
This Treiso-based family estate is one of Piedmont’s most exciting under-the-radar producers. The Sandri wines show remarkable lift and energy—bright red fruit, fine tannins, and beautiful site transparency. If you love traditionally styled Barbaresco with a Burgundian edge, don’t miss these.
2020 Rosanna Sandri Barbaresco Damasco – 92 CT
From east-facing vineyards in Treiso on sandy, calcareous soils. A more delicate expression with soaring aromatics—think rose petal, strawberry, and dried herbs.
2021 Rosanna Sandri Barbaresco Damasco
A touch deeper and more concentrated than the 2020, but still lithe and elegant. Notes of crushed red berries, orange zest, and mint, with a lifted finish that reflects the vintage’s freshness and balance.
2021 Rosanna Sandri Barbaresco Rizzi – 93 CT
From the limestone-rich soils of the Rizzi cru in Treiso. This wine shows enormous depth and texture—red cherry, rosehip, and savory spice—wrapped around a vibrant, mineral core. A Burgundian-feeling Barbaresco with both delicacy and drive.
2022 Rosanna Sandri Langhe Nebbiolo Botero – 91 CT
From the high-altitude, sandy soils of San Rocco Seno d’Elvio. Fermented in concrete and aged in large botti, this is a joyful expression of young Nebbiolo: bright, crunchy red fruit, hints of violet, and silky tannins. It’s immensely drinkable and punches far above its price.

Bartolo Mascarello – Barolo
The benchmark for traditional Barolo. Maria Teresa Mascarello continues her father Bartolo’s legacy, crafting age-worthy, aromatically complex wines from the family’s legendary blend of Cannubi, Rue, Rocche, San Lorenzo, and Monrobiolo di Bussia.
All wines are in OCB6 - pristine, ex-domaine stock.
2015 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo – 97 VN
"A positively stunning wine, Maria Teresa Mascarello's 2015 Barolo is very clearly one of the wines of the year."
2016 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo – 100 WA
"This is the stuff of dreams...The aromas are chiseled and focused with wild berry, licorice, candied orange peel, campfire ash, rusted iron, crushed graphite and pencil shaving...Structurally, it is perfect. If we were to create a template for an aspirational Barolo, this would be it."
2017 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo – 96 WA
From an underrated vintage, the 2017 is a graceful, open-knit Barolo that shows all the hallmarks of the estate’s traditional style—lifted red fruit, delicate florals, and superb balance. Silky and precise, with fine acidity and a vibrant core of energy.
2019 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo – 98 WA
"A decisive, vertical Barolo with skeleton and bones—a wine for purists and long-term cellaring. The blend includes Monrobiolo in Bussia, Rue and Cannubi in Barolo, and Rocche dell’Annunziata in La Morra. Expect crunch, acidity, and tannic structure in all the right places."
2020 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo – 96 WA
"The wine reveals a soft side, with supple tannins, dark cherry fruit, dried herb, tea leaf and a hint of wild mint."
