There is no shortage of precision or nuance, but the 1982 doesn't quite have the body of the 1981 nor the aromatic finesse of the 1985, both of which I tasted alongside it. The 1982 is bright, tense, and, as much as I am shocked to say it, painfully young. When will the 1982 from magnum be at its best? I am not sure, but it does not appear to be now. The 1982 Krug Collection bottling out of magnum is absolutely beautiful and at its absolute apogee at age thirty-three, soaring from the glass in a superbly complex constellation of apple, nutskin, wheat toast, lovely smokiness, caraway seed, a beautifully complex base of soil and just a touch of honeycomb in the upper register. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and laser-like in its focus, with a bright and vibrant personality, great complexity, a lovely core, very elegant mousse and a very, very long, elegant and vibrant finish. Out of magnum, this wine has decades to go, but it is drinking so beautifully that it will be very hard to keep one's hands off of this wine, if one is fortunate enough to have some tucked away in the cellar. Hailing from Reims and standing firm since 1843, Krug is a globally-acclaimed Champagne producer revered for its extraordinary quality and ingenuity. This dream continues to resonate within the Krug ethos, evermore amplified by subsequent generations. The painstaking attention to the character of each plot, coupled with a vast library of reserve wines, grants Krug the ability to deliver great Champagne year after year.

Their Champagnes bear a unique signature with a nose of toasted, grilled, pastry, or almond notes, a result of at least 6 years of aging sur lies. The palate introduces fresh fruit, especially citrus, maintaining a freshness through careful grape selection. With residual sugar levels never exceeding 6.5g/L, Krug wines are predominantly dry, crafting an indelible impression of their relentless pursuit for distinction.
