2006 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut #161776570
Reviews 95 points Wine Advocate "...shows rich and ripe (tropical) fruit on the nose along with delicate brioche notes. Round and textured on the palate, this is a generous but fresh, fine and salty Cristal with a very long and greatly finessed finish. (SR)" 95 points John Gilman "...offers up a deep, youthful and very serious bouquet of apple, delicate tangerine, brioche, fresh almond, very classy limestone minerality, incipient smokiness, a touch of orange peel and a floral topnote redolent of white lilies. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and impeccably balanced, with a great core of fruit, laser-like focus, utterly refined mousse, crisp acids and superb length and grip on the very pure and primary finish. About Louis Roederer
The house of Louis Roederer is responsible for producing several prestige Champagnes, including Blanc de Blanc and Brut Rose. However, their crown jewel is Cristal, crafted using 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay from their premier vineyards in Reims. The history of Louis Roederer dates back to 1776, and Cristal was originally created for Russian Emperor Tsar Alexander II in 1876. To this day, Louis Roederer remains a family-run business, now in its 7th generation as the largest independent Champagne house.
Cristal is only produced in the finest vintages and has the potential to age for several decades. When you come across its signature gold cellophane wrapping, take a moment to appreciate it. Not only is it a nod to its historical prestige, but it also protects the bottle from damaging UV rays.
