Reviews 95 points Wine Advocate "...has fabulous richness and depth, with seamless integration of its fruit, tannin and acidity. Exhibiting deep, rich notes of liquid blackberry, plum, black pepper, smoked duck and soy, this full-bodied, gorgeously pure Cornas has a supple, layered texture, bright acidity and a big finish. (JD)" 95-96 points Vinous "Opaque ruby. Heady, smoke- and spice-accented aromas of dark berries, potpourri and minerals. Sappy, penetrating and pure, offering expansive black raspberry and boysenberry flavors that are lifted and sharpened by juicy acidity. Shows superb clarity and power on the finish, which is firmed by fine-grained, harmonious tannins. The balance here is remarkable. (JR)"

About Thierry Allemand

On the steep, granite terraces of Cornas, Thierry Allemand has waged a quiet revolution. During the 1980s when most of the wines of the appellation were farmed conventionally and sold off to négociants, Thierry began slowly purchasing small parcels of Syrah that had fallen into disrepair. Slowly, he introduced organic farming practices, reinforced terraces and replanted entire vineyards. Today, he farms five hectares and does all the vineyard work by hand and is now the one of the appellation’s most celebrated producers.

In the spirit of contemporaries like Marcel & Mathieu Lapierre and Didier Barral, Thierry is committed to natural fermentations and little to no additional doses of sulfur. He ferments each parcel separately in whole clusters, in open-topped oak and stainless steel cuves, punching the cap down traditionally by foot. He then ages the wines in a combination of oak barrels and foudres for up to 24 months before blending. He finishes by bottling the finished wines unfined and unfiltered. Muscular and penetrating yet fragrant and finessed, the wines of Thierry Allemand will change what you think you know about Syrah.
