2014 Chateau des Quarts Pouilly-Fuisse Clos de Quarts #157295991
Reviews 92 points Wine Advocate "The 2014 Pouilly-Fuisse Clos des Quarts has a refined nose, coiled up tightly at the moment, unfolding with lime flower, beeswax and honeysuckle aromas that are sure to bloom with bottle age. The palate is well balanced, precise and lightly spiced. This is a complex 2014 Maconnais, quite minerally towards the finish with hazelnut and white pepper enlivening and prolonging the aftertaste. It delivers upon the one's high expectations given the names behind this label. (NM)" 93 points Vinous "Bright, light yellow. Very refined, complex scents of white peach, pear drop, white flowers and stone. At once dense and weightless, conveying outstanding clarity and purity to its citrus and mineral flavors. Hints of spices and mint contribute to the wine's light touch. Like drinking water in the Alps. Lemon-limey acidity and an element of salinity give the finish lift and grip. This dusty, extract-rich wine stains the palate without leaving any impression of weight. Offers a really remarkable combination of density and delicacy. (ST)"

About Chateau des Quarts
Château des Quarts was established in 2012 through a collaboration between Dominique Lafon and Olivier Merlin, long-time friends who shared a passion for winemaking. Since 2003, Olivier had been procuring grapes from the Clos des Quarts vineyard, creating his finest Pouilly-Fuissé wine. When the vineyard and Château became available for acquisition, Olivier contacted Dominique, and their partnership was formed. Together, they set out to elevate this exceptional terroir to new heights within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Olivier's team tends to the vineyards, and the wines are meticulously crafted in the Merlin cellars in La Roche Vineuse.
Perched atop the hill of Chaintré, the southernmost village of Pouilly-Fuissé, the estate overlooks the Saône Valley and Mâcon, facing southeast. The vineyard spans just over 2 hectares and sits on a vast limestone bedrock which sets it apart as the finest terroir in the village, predominantly characterized by clay-rich soils. These soils and vines, some of which are approaching a century in age, contribute to the wines' distinctive character and complexity.
Château des Quarts preserves its heritage by employing meticulous viticultural practices. The use of riparia rootstock and traditional training and pruning methods contribute to the longevity of the vines. The vineyard has been recognized as a Premier Cru site since the 2020 vintage.
The wines produced by Château des Quarts are truly exceptional. For example, the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru Aux Quarts Clos des Quarts Monopole is a Chardonnay that showcases the terroir's early-ripening nature. The vineyard's old stone walls still border this parcel, underscoring its historical significance. The wine offers a harmonious nose with delicate aromas of white peach and subtle wood notes. It exhibits iodized characteristics on the palate, followed by a remarkable amplitude and great elegance.
Another remarkable offering is the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er Cru L'Orangerie Du Chateau Des Quarts, crafted from Chardonnay vines planted in 2015. This parcel within Aux Quarts neighbors the Orangerie du Château, built in 1875 to protect exotic plants during winter. The wine emanates intense aromas of peach and citrus, beautifully integrated with a touch of oak. It strikes a perfect balance between volume and freshness, captivating the palate.
The Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Quarts Chardonnay is produced using direct pressing and undergoes both alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in oak barrels. After 19 months of aging, the wine is lightly filtered before bottling. It boasts a nose of white-fleshed fruits and floral notes. The palate reveals a refreshing, dynamic, and elegant profile with a pleasing saline finish, displaying remarkable persistence and balance.
