About Colgin

Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Colgin Cellars stands as a testament to the region's storied winemaking tradition. Since opening its doors in 1992, it's clear they've been not just crafting wines, but weaving stories in a bottle. For close to thirty years, they've poured their heart and soul into every vintage, producing wines that resonate with depth, elegance, and unforgettable character. Their passion is evident, from the precision of their vineyard practices to the artistry of their blending. In every bottle from Colgin, one finds a symphony of flavors that truly captures the essence and intrigue of their unique hillside terroirs.

One of Colgin Cellars' noteworthy vineyard holdings is the Tychson Hill Vineyard, situated north of the town of St. Helena. This six-acre (2.42-hectare) vineyard, originally planted in the 19th century, belonged to Josephine Tychson, the first woman to establish a winery in Napa Valley. After being replanted in the mid-1990s by Ann Colgin with heritage clones of Cabernet Sauvignon, this exceptional site produces a signature cabernet with intense layers of crème de cassis, barbecue smoke, graphite, blackberry, and freshly cut flowers, offering an exciting experience for the palate.

Located in the western hills of St. Helena, the Cariad Vineyard spans eight acres (3.2 hectares) and boasts volcanic, stony soils with gravelly alluvium. Benefiting from bountiful sunshine and a cool climate, this vineyard produces a striking Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend from vines planted in the early 1980s. The mineral-rich soil contributes to the wine's distinctive character, while the centuries of cooler mountain air are vividly expressed in each sip.

The IX Estate Vineyard, overlooking Lake Hennessey in the Pritchard Hill area, occupies 20 acres (8.07 hectares) and features well-drained reddish clays with weathered igneous rocks. This rugged and beautiful parcel of land, acquired by Ann Colgin in 2000, yields two distinct wine experiences: the dark and intense IX Estate Bordeaux blend and the IX Estate Syrah. Shaped by eons of tectonic activity, the unique soil of this vineyard imparts depth and complexity to these exceptional wines.

Colgin Cellars, founded by Ann Colgin, is deeply rooted in Napa Valley's winemaking heritage. In addition to their vineyard holdings, Colgin Cellars has established a reputation for excellence through meticulous hand sorting of grapes, precise fermentation techniques, and the expertise of their winemaker, Allison Tauziet. Colgin Cellars' commitment to philanthropy is also evident in their involvement with charity wine auctions, where verticals and large-format bottles of Colgin wines have raised significant funds for important causes.

Colgin Cellars continues to raise the bar in Napa Valley winemaking, showcasing their passion for producing wines of exceptional quality and distinction.
