Reviews 92 points Wine Advocate "...has a lovely oyster shell tinged bouquet with joyous black cherry and bilberry aromas. I appreciate the precision of this Nuits Saint-Georges, hints of violets emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, a touch of orange sorbet infusing the dark cherry fruit with a saline touch on the finish. (NM)" 91 points Vinous "Medium red with ruby tones. More complex than the Gevrey Champerrier but also with obvious torrefaction notes of coffee and dark chocolate to its dark fruit aromas. A step up in intensity and precision, with cassis and blackberry fruit flavors complicated by violet and bitter chocolate nuances. A rather feminine, north-side Gevrey with moderate flesh but very good definition and length. The rather delicate tannins are nicely buffered by a touch of saline minerality. I like this. (ST)"

About Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils

Based in Vosne-Romanee, Domaine Jean Tardy is an ascendant star of the Cote de Nuits. Helmed by Guillaume Tardy since 2011, it's been an exciting address to follow for the last several years. In 2021, this tiny estate handily navigated the vintage AND implemented the first year of its organic conversion. Yields were down nearly a half, but the grapes were healthy and ripened fully, thanks to intensive vineyard work. Guillaume was one of the first in Burgundy to harvest this year, and his six hectares were fully picked within four days. Grapes were 100% destemmed and given a week-long cold soak, before being gently pressed into oak, with 25-75% new depending on the cuvee. Most saw two winters on the fine lees before bottling. Even with additional punch-downs to reinforce the spine of this vintage, the wines are fresh and lacy. Echezeaux is the obvious star of the lineup, with old vines from 1937 lending incredible depth and presence. Still, as at Leroux, the "lesser" wines will surprise and exceed expectations, from the Cuvee Maelie, drawn from 60-year-old vines above Vosne to Gevrey’s Champerrier, with a third of a hectare of vines dating to 1958. These are serious and deeply engaging wines!
