Reviews 94 points Vinous "...a generous and vivacious bouquet with copious blueberry and red cherry fruit, orange zest and kirsch aromas developing with aeration. More flamboyant than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy and ripe with a touch of viscosity towards the finish. Certainly one of the most lavish Grand Crus in 2016 and utterly delicious. (NM)" 95 points Burghound "Once again the wood treatment is worthy of mentioning though it stops short of overshadowing the high-toned, ripe and ultra-fresh aromas of various red berries, underbrush and truffle hints. The refined and highly energetic middle weight plus flavors possess a polished mouthfeel thanks primarily to the fine-grained tannins shaping the compact, tightly wound and built-to-age finish that flashes more than a touch of youthful austerity. The women of Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

About Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg

When most wine connoisseurs think of Burgundy’s finest, they think of the greats like DRC, Leflaive, and Rousseau. When Burgundy insiders think of the region’s finest, they think of the Mugneret sisters.

Dr. Georges Mugneret was a highly regarded ophthalmologist, but he came from a winemaking family, and his true passion was wine. His medical practice, however, came in handy, as he could afford to be very particular with the vineyard sites he purchased, resulting in top quality ranging from Bourgogne to Grand Cru. Sadly, Dr. Georges passed suddenly, leaving his wife and two daughters to take over the family estate.

Continuing what their father started, Marie-Christine runs the winemaking and cellar work, while her sister Marie-Andree manages the vineyards and business. Given the high quality and reputation, one might think there is a large team behind the scenes, but it’s just the sisters and their two assistants. The result in the glass is an honest representation of the term Burgundian: perfumed aromas, silky smooth tannins, rich fruit, and refined elegance. This team of four crafts a minuscule amount of wine but everything across the range is worth splurging for. Insider tip: if you have the opportunity to acquire some, jump on it!
