About Domaine de la Louvetrie (Landron & Fils)

Domaine de la Louvetrie, presided over by the modest and meticulous Jo Landron, rests atop the upper slopes of the Sèvre River near Nantes. Transforming the family domaine since the 1990s, Landron has expanded from 26 to 48 hectares, integrating two additional estates into the family holdings. In 1999, his vision led him to transition the domaine to organic and biodynamic cultivation, thus amplifying the purity and distinctive minerality of his variegated terroirs, which span clay, sandstone, silica, gneiss, and amphibolite soil types. These practices bolster the vine's expression even under low yields, such as the challenging vintage of 2012, where a meager yield of 18 hl/ha still produced potent fruits.

The backbone of Domaine de la Louvetrie's production is Melon de Bourgogne, but Landron also cultivates small quantities of Folle Blanche, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay for his bright and vibrant sparkling wine, Atmosphères. Landron's dedication to quality is apparent in his meticulous hand-harvesting and careful fruit sorting. He slowly and gently presses whole clusters, employing wild yeasts for alcoholic fermentation that span two to three weeks. To retain the wines' refreshing character, Landron ages the wines on fine lees, eschewing malolactic fermentation.

Notably, Landron is lauded for his trailblazing endeavor of bottling single-site, terroir-specific Muscadets. The Fief du Breil, a prestigious cuvée, is a testament to this, deriving from a south-facing slope above the Sèvre River. This cuvée showcases the old vines of around 45 years on a soil blend of clay, silica, and quartz stones on orthogneiss subsoil. It imparts a generous, subtly saline, and gracefully aged profile, laden with notes of dried fruit, smoky undertones, white flowers, aromatic herbs, and citrus fruits.

Landron's expressive entry-level La Louvetrie wine, a blend of sites, and his light and mineral-infused Cuvée Amphibolite Nature, renowned for its exceptional pairing with oysters and shellfish, are also worth noting. The Domaine de la Louvetrie wines, bottled by gravity, unfined and unfiltered, are not just an expression of the terroir but also a testament to Jo Landron's expertise, ingenuity, and relentless commitment to sustainable viticulture.
