2017 Domaine Michel Lafarge Beaune 1er Cru Greves #158409080
Reviews 90-92 points Wine Advocate "From the domaine's oldest vines, the 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Les Greves exhibits notes of cherries, spices and citrus peel. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, deep and complete, with more concentration than the Clos des Aigrots and a more muscular chassis of fine-grained tannins, concluding with a long finish. (WK)" 91-93 points Burghound "As is typically the case this isn't quite as elegant but it's even more complex with its nuanced array of red pinot fruit, dark currant and pungent earth scents. The attractively supple mid-palate of the medium-bodied flavors contrasts with the distinctly firm finish that offers excellent depth and persistence. Note that this will need at least a few years first as it's clearly built-to-age. (AM)"

About Domaine Michel Lafarge
The late Michel Lafarge was simply a master of Volnay, a soulful craftsman of some of the world’s finest Pinot Noirs for over six decades. Today, Michel’s son, Frédéric, oversees the 12 hectare Domaine, including the appellation’s greatest crus, using certified organic and biodynamic methods. As early pioneers of biodynamic viticulture, Frédéric and his father were passionate and uncompromising. In the 2012 vintage, for example, they gracefully accepted losing the vast majority of their crop rather than resort to conventional farming methods. And even in easy vintages, their yields are intentionally low.
In their 13th-century cellars, Frédéric and his team de-stem the entire crop. They seek traditional, natural vinifications on native yeasts, infrequent rackings, and long élévages in oak barrels, using anywhere between 5% to 25% new wood. They bottle the reds unfiltered and only fine and filter the whites when necessary. With complexity, aromatic depth and poise, the wines of Domaine Michel Lafarge can withstand great lengths of cellar aging. What’s more, they are incredibly rare, especially with age, so we recommend buying them when you can!
