About Albert Grivault

Domaine Albert Grivault, a noteworthy Burgundian producer based in Meursault, is a family enterprise with an illustrious lineage dating back to 1879. Established by Albert Grivault, the vineyard was initially composed of 15 hectares, including the substantial holding of Les Perrières and the exclusive Clos des Perrières. The estate has now been scaled down to six hectares across five appellations, with a pending proposal to upgrade their Bourgogne Blanc to Meursault.

The estate's management, initially under Michel Bardet, Albert Grivault's grandson, is being transitioned to his progeny, Claire and Henri-Marc Bardet. They continue to use the services of tâcherons, independent vineyard workers responsible for vine management.

The Meursault Premier Cru Clos des Perrières is a standout, known for its unparalleled Chardonnay expression. This vineyard is located on an exceptional terroir, marked by its intensely stony nature and complex clay-loam-sand soil composition. The blend of Bathonian outcrop and colluvium gives the wine a distinctively rich, mineral-laden character that matures gracefully over time.

Another remarkable wine is the Pommard Premier Cru Clos Blanc, an anomaly given that it's a Pinot Noir from a vineyard historically known for white grape cultivation. This wine's uniqueness is highlighted by the vineyard's sandy clay and pebbly clay composition. The result is a red wine of elegance and depth, encapsulating the essence of Pommard's terroir.

The Meursault Premier Cru Perrières, another star in Grivault's portfolio, originates from two vineyard plots and is noted for its brown clay and sandy limestone soil. This south-southwest-facing vineyard brings forth Chardonnay with a remarkable balance of fruit intensity and mineral freshness.

In addition, the Meursault Clos du Murger and Bourgogne Clos du Murger, both 100% Chardonnay, come from vineyards characterized by the presence of flat, grey stones, indicative of the historical practices of the winegrowers in the region. The vineyard's enclosed area contributes to a unique microclimate, yielding wines of distinct complexity and precision.

Through Domaine Albert Grivault's rigorous cultivation and vinification practices, the wines' high caliber and extraordinary terroir-driven profiles have earned the estate a distinguished reputation among Burgundy's white wine producers. Each wine presents a unique expression of its specific terroir, ensuring that each sip is an immersive journey through the vineyards of Meursault.
