About Domaine des Carlines

Situated in the charming hamlet of Menetru-le-Vignoble, Domaine des Carlines is a distinctive wine producer in the Cotes du Jura and Chateau-Chalon AOCs. Managed by the dedicated duo Patrick and Sophie Ligeron, this estate capitalizes on its excellent vineyard holdings, including a significant 10% of the esteemed Château Chalon region, the unofficial grand cru of Jura. Their vineyard selection spans diverse parcels, from the minerally-rich En Lya to the tension-filled Le Calvaire, culminating in a myriad of nuanced expressions of Chardonnay and Savagnin.

Sophie and Patrick's winemaking philosophy hinges on a minimal intervention approach. By nurturing vine roots to penetrate the grey marl and clay terroir and championing a transition towards organic viticulture, they focus on the quality of the grape to naturally express its unique terroir characteristics. The wines are fermented naturally, aged in used Burgundy oak barrels for 12-15 months, and left unfiltered and unclarified, capturing the raw and pure essence of the Jura.

Their commitment to quality is most evident in wines like their Poulsard, with its vibrantly juicy raspberry notes and delicate eucalyptus undertones, or their La Vouivre, a harmonious blend of Chardonnay and Savagnin featuring unique nutty, curried, and apple-forward aromas, evocative of the native yeasts of Jura.

Ultimately, Domaine des Carlines presents wines that speak not just to the Jura enthusiast but to all who appreciate terroir-driven wines. With each bottle uncorked, Patrick and Sophie Ligeron showcase the unique character and unpretentious charm of the Jura region.
