Reviews 93-95 points Wine Advocate "The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is showing particularly well this year, bursting with aromas of cherries, cassis, grilled meats and peonies. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, with a deep and multidimensional core, good concentration and a long, lively finish. (WK)" 91-93 points Vinous "The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru has a gorgeous bouquet, a mixture of red and blue fruit (very typical of this vineyard) with floral topnotes. While not the most complex of Duroches Grand Crus, it lives up to its name and has plenty of charm. The palate is medium-bodied with saturated tannin, moderate acidity. Needs to develop some more tension and bite toward the finish but certainly delivers plenty of persistence. Very fine. (NM)"

About Domaine Duroche

Domaine Duroche, nestled within the hart of Gevrey Chambertin, is a distinguished producer celebrated for its terroir-driven expressions of Burgundy. Under the thoughtful stewardship of the fifth-generation winemaker Pierre Duroche, the winery's reputation for exceptional wines has significantly heightened since he assumed full control in 2005.

Spread over 8.25 hectares in Gevrey Chambertin, Domaine Duroche's vineyard holdings encompass village, Premier Cru, and Grand Cru appellations. The portfolio ranges from Bourgogne Rouge and Blanc to various coveted micro cuvées, the notable Gevrey-Chambertin Lavaux St Jacques Vignes 23, a standout wine from pre-1923 vines, and four prestigious Grand Crus including Charmes, Griottes, Latricieres, and Clos de Beze. This lineup was further enriched in 2017 with the addition of Vosne-Romanée Village and Echezeaux Grand Cru.

Viticultural practices at Domaine Duroche are strictly organic, with an emphasis on maintaining soil health. Grapes are hand-harvested and undergo meticulous sorting in both the vineyard and the cellar. Each harvest is typically de-stemmed, save for the Griotte Chambertin, and ferments with natural yeasts. The wines are aged for 15-16 months on the fine lees, most often without racking, and see no more than 15% new oak.

What sets Domaine Duroche apart is their remarkable blend of understated power and elegance. Their wines, marked by fine-grained tannins and an earthy, briny, mineral core, are a testament to the authentic Gevrey terroir. While the wines are charming enough to relish upon release, they also possess structural robustness that allows for graceful aging. High praise from critics such as The Wine Advocate underscores the winery's remarkable achievement in capturing the essence of the Burgundian terroir and elevating it to an impressive level of finesse and sophistication.
