Reviews 91 points Wine Advocate "It's darker than the majority of reds from Jura and has a ripe nose of berries, wild herbs and flowers, quite fruit driven. It has a juicy palate with fine-grained tannins and a spicy and bitter twist in the finish. (LG)"

About Domaine Pignier

Domaine Pignier, a treasured wine estate nestled in the Jura region's steephead valleys, stands as the only winery in the village of Montaigu. Currently, the estate is managed by the seventh generation of the Pignier family, who have been stewards of the vineyard for centuries. Situated amidst a biologically diverse microclimate, their vineyard spans 13 hectares (32 acres) and benefits from an ideal environment imbued with an array of flora and fauna.

This unique landscape led the family to adopt stringent biodynamic practices in the late 90s, ultimately earning the Demeter certification in 2003. They shunned chemical sprays and synthetic inputs, instead utilizing natural, time-tested techniques reminiscent of their grandfather's era. The Pignier family's approach rejuvenated their vineyard, leading to improved grape quality and vine health.

The Pignier's vineyard has three main slopes - Les Gauthières, a southern slope abundant in unique geology and home to Savagnin and Trousseau; Behind the village, a small plot sheltered from north winds, ideal for Trousseau; and En Boivin, home to their most historic vineyard where the estate's emblematic cuvée Cellier des Chartreux is born.

Their viticulture techniques embody precision and a deep respect for the land. They prune mainly using the Single Guyot method, regularly lift and attach growing shoots, and manually thin out the foliage. Green manure crops are planted for plant cover, and biodynamic preparations are applied to stimulate soil biological activity.

Their commitment to maintaining authenticity is unparalleled. They refuse to supplement their harvests from external sources, thus ensuring the wines' integrity. As a result, only their own grapes, carefully handpicked and sorted, contribute to their offerings.

Domaine Pignier's wines reflect the rich history and unique terroir of Montaigu. Ranging from under-the-veil wines, produced using traditional vinification techniques, to ouillé wines and the delicate Trousseau and Pinot Noir, each bottle tells a story of the Pignier family's dedication to excellence and authenticity. Each sip is a testament to their unwavering commitment to crafting the purest expressions of their terroir.
