About Laura Lorenzo DaTerra Viticultores

Laura Lorenzo may not be a name you know, but there's no doubt she's one of the most skilled and accomplished winemakers working in Galicia. Prior to starting her own winery in 2014, Laura spent 10 years at the helm of the pioneering Ribeira Sacra winery Dominio do Bibei, not to mention her training at Eben Sadie and Achaval Ferrer. She now works with about five hectares of vines, largely concentrated in the southernmost subzone of Ribeira Sacra, which has the most climactic and grape diversity of the five. From her old vines, she makes a wide array of wines, all farmed with an eye towards regenerative agriculture and fermented naturally, with minimal sulfur.

Portela do Vento is all mencia from 50-year-old vines, grown in a single parcel in the Amandi subzone. It sits closer to the Sil River at 350-400 meters elevation in the granite soils. Destemmed and partially crushed, it is fermented and aged in large foudre for about a year before bottling. It's a complex and lifted mix of tart fruits, florals, and mencia's trademark cedar notes, with a fine minerality framing it all.

Tabernario Tinto is a project started after a disastrous 2018 decimated yields in a number of her vineyards, so the remaining grapes were fermented together with some whole clusters into a fresh, fruity wine – perfect for a wine bar or tavern. A juicy blend of varieties, including mencia, alicante bouchet and palomino, aged in large chestnut barrels. It's lively and slightly wild, with high-toned red fruits, bright aromatics and mouth watering acids. These are hard to pass up thanks to Laura's energetic and engaging style.
