Reviews 92 points Wine Advocate "...features scents of lavender, garrigue and purple raspberries. In the mouth, it's full-bodied and concentrated, with ample, ripe tannins... (JC)" 17.5 points Jancis Robinson "Very vibrant fruits on the nose ? underneath follows a slight earthy ashy note (whole bunch?), floral and pepper touches. Juicy smoky fruit with lots of grip ? very refined and finely tuned tannins. Already gives lots of pleasure with its pure and vibrant notes, but all the time with a brooding smoke. Well-judged acidity too leads to a long savoury-infused earthy finish. (AC)"

About Domaine Charvin

Domaine Charvin, a family-owned estate since 1851, has its current reputation under the stewardship of sixth-generation Laurent Charvin, who has steered the domaine from 1990 onwards. Situated in the cooler, north end of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the domaine includes an 8-hectare estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and a 13-hectare plot in Côtes du Rhône, with the vineyards' average age surpassing 50 years and the oldest approaching 80 years.

Characterized by Laurent's biodynamic and certified organic farming practices, Domaine Charvin's wines stand out due to their depth and finesse. Predominantly Grenache-based, with supplemental amounts of Vacaresse, Mourvedre, Carignan, and Bourboulenc for the Côtes du Rhône, these wines are traditionally vinified. The technique involves whole-bunch fermentation without de-stemming, followed by aging in cement tanks—no wood is used for elevage.

The producer's noteworthy Côtes du Rhône, hailing from vineyards bordering the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, often outperforms top-tier offerings from lesser producers in the region. Laurent's Châteauneuf-du-Pape cuvée enjoys consistently high ratings, contributing to the domaine's glowing reputation.

Grape harvesting and sorting at Domaine Charvin are strictly manual, lending to the artisanship of each vintage. The result of this meticulous process is approximately 2,500 cases per vintage, including a distinctive Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc, produced since 2015 from Clairette Rose and Bourboulenc, planted in 1968. Each of these attributes underscores Domaine Charvin's commitment to quality and tradition.
