Reviews 92 points Wine Advocate "...these vines are fully 110 years old and apparently still in fine form. Exhibiting notions of plums, sweet berry fruit, warm spices and licorice, the wine is medium to full-bodied, layered and complete, with superb concentration, ripe tannins and a long, resonant finish. About Domaine de Cassiopee

At the very southern part of the Cote de Beaune lies Sampigny-les-Maranges. Nearly 15 miles from central Beaune, this is a world away. Hugo and Talloulah Mathurin purchased a home here with five hectares of vines. Fresh off stints with Roulot, Mugnier, Clos de Tart, and Ben Leroux, the pair made a considered choice to find cooler sites to produce the kind of dazzling Burgundies they loved. They have wildly succeeded with their vineyards in the Maranges, where harvests can be up to 15 days later than in Meursault.

They’re working with a lot of old vines (some well over a century), with some vineyards exposed, at the windy top of a hill, some protected and surrounded by wild forests. Organic farming and a hands-off approach in the cellar make for lithe, transparent wines. There are few generalizations here in the winemaking, but there’s some whole cluster use, a low to no sulfur regimen, and aging in oak, with a portion of some whites in amphora. Their first two vintages are mind-blowing, truly one of Burgundy’s most exciting new estates!
