Reviews 93 points Vinous "The 2020 Pouilly Fume MCMLV hails from Domaine du Bouchot's oldest plot of vines dating back to 1955 hence the name MCMLV. Bottled just four weeks before I tasted it in June 2022, it had undergone an unusual winemaking process: half of the wine underwent skin contact for several days while the rest was pressed directly into old (8 to 10-year-old) 500-liter barrels. This wine shows lots of thiol-related flavors: tropical fruit, gooseberry as well as a hint of green. It is wine with lots of texture, a sense of roundness and completeness with a sense of satisfying grip that clasps the palate on the finish. There's lovely acidity, but it's nicely balanced. (RG)"

About Domaine du Bouchot

Established as a family estate in 1987, Domaine du Bouchot entered a transformative era under the stewardship of Antoine Gouffier in 2019. Born and bred in Pouilly-sur-Loire, Antoine's in-depth familiarity with the local terroir informed his early ventures in the vineyard, paving the way for his current innovative viticultural practices.

Antoine is a champion of sustainable winemaking, having completed the transition of the Domaine to certified organic and biodynamic methods. From the 2020 vintage onwards, wines from this 10-hectare estate bear the Demeter certification, evidencing their strict adherence to biodynamic principles. The vineyards predominantly harbor Sauvignon Blanc, punctuated with some Chasselas vines, settled on the southwest side of Saint-Andelain village.

The unique soils of the vineyards deeply impact the character of Bouchot wines. Kimmeridgian marl – a mix of white clay, limestone, and fossilized oysters – and Portlandian limestone imbue the wines with a distinctive flinty, mineral quality, enhancing their purity and clarity.

Antoine adopts a minimal intervention approach, favoring native yeast and stainless-steel fermentation. His innovative experiments with amphorae and sulfur-free vinification further underscore his commitment to letting the terroir speak. The domaine produces three different Pouilly-Fumés, a Pouilly-sur-Loire from Chasselas, and an Orange Vin de France, the only orange wine of the appellation, each expressing a unique facet of their terroir.

Antoine's devotion to the land and the rich Sauvignon Blanc expressions of Pouilly-Fumé is evident in his wines. Marked by fruity, floral notes and a prominent minerality, his wines display a harmonious balance of vibrancy and elegance. Domaine du Bouchot, under Antoine's guidance, is reaching new viticultural milestones in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation.
