Domaine Julien Vedel, an exceptional micro-domaine, encompasses a modest 0.2 ha parcel nestled within the heart of Vouvray's 'Premiere Cote' near Noizay, a region known for its steep slopes and limestone-rich topsoil. Julien Vedel, leveraging his invaluable experience as a vineyard manager under the tutelage of Philippe Foreau, expertly tends to this land using biodynamic farming methods and horse-drawn plows. In 2011, Vedel took over a 0.2-hectare plot of century-old Chenin vines on Vouvray's first hill, meticulously cultivating it in his spare time while working full-time at Clos Naudin.
Entirely hand-tended, the vineyard rejects the use of weedkillers in favor of horse-plowing and careful hand-weaving of the venerable vines. Vedel's precision and dedication yield an annual production of around 1000 bottles, crafted in the cellar of his own home. He employs natural yeasts and minimal sulfur to produce a distinctive AOC Vouvray cuvée, Le Compte Marc. This unique Chenin Blanc emanates hints of chalk, white flowers, citrus, and exotic notes, presenting a bright, dynamic palate, notable dry extracts, and an undercurrent of fruitiness and exoticism.
