Reviews 94 points Vinous "... offers lovely honeysuckle, jasmine, wax resin and light lemongrass scents. The palate is well balanced with very good weight. Tightly-wound at first, this develops wonderfully with a long tail on the finish. Outstanding. (NM)"

Francois Jouard in the vineyard

About Domaine Vincent et Francois Jouard

Domaine Vincent et Francois Jouard, a fifth-generation family-owned estate in Chassagne Montrachet, Burgundy, has been crafting wines since 1820. Helmed by Vincent and Francois Jouard, each brother brings distinct skills to the table. Vincent, with his meticulous viticulture, manages the 11 hectares of land, including ten premier cru vineyards. At the same time, Francois handles the winemaking, giving a light touch in the cellar and using no more than one-third new barrels for elevage.

Their devotion to old vines, some surpassing 50 years, sets them apart. These mature vines tap deep into the earth, drawing an abundance of minerals and nutrients that contribute to the complexity of the wines. The Jouard brothers' sustainable farming methods, such as extensive plowing, eschew chemical weeding, preserving the integrity and health of the vineyards.

The unique position of the vineyards, with Premier Crus on the hill and red and Village wines on the lower slopes, combined with the region's rich and complex soils, allow the Jouard's to create wines that exude elegance and vitality. Their wines, 95% of which are white and a mere 5% red Chassagne-Montrachet, are expressive of the terroir, with a vibrant nose, crisp acidity, and luscious finish.

The wines are unique exemplars of Burgundian elegance and terroir-driven complexity. Their Chassagne-Montrachet Vieilles Vignes showcases vibrant citrus and floral notes on the nose, met with a crisp, balanced acidity on the palate and a structured finish offering excellent aging potential.

Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie 1er Cru stands out with a bouquet bursting with yellow plum and honeysuckle. Its palate, harmoniously balanced by a fine acidity, gives way to substantial depth and grip towards the finish. Though delightful upon release, this wine benefits from a few years in the cellar to fully express its nuanced complexity. In both of these wines, the use of a modest one-third new oak allows the rich, mineral-infused expressions of their old-vine parcels to shine through.

Their dedication to traditional winemaking and the blessings of prime parcels and old vines contribute to the excellent value and high demand for their wines, with a limited annual production of only 250 cases. This makes the Domaine Vincent et Francois Jouard wines both a delight to drink and a worthy addition to any discerning collector's cellar.
