About Domaine Guillot-Broux

Situated in the southernmost part of Burgundy, Domaine Guillot-Broux is a remarkable winery, producing distinct and high-quality wines that stand out even amidst the growing attention and excitement in the Maconnais region. Led by brothers Emmanuel and Patrice, the domaine practices certified organic viticulture across their 17-hectare holdings. This practice is deeply rooted in their family legacy as their grandparents were pioneers of France's first organic vineyard in the 1950s.

The brothers farm on sites once abandoned post-phylloxera due to steep and rocky terrains. These mature vines are densely planted and offer low yields, giving their wines an inherent intensity. Their two standout sites, Les Genievrieres and Les Perrieres, showcase the diverse terroir. The former, located on a steep slope above a bedrock break, is layered with deep clay-limestone soil and brings depth and richness to the wines with a fine mineral core and nuanced acidity. On the other hand, Les Perrieres, marked by a thin layer of topsoil over limestone slabs, lends a unique lemon-curd and yogurt profile to the wine, offering a fascinating textural dimension.

Domaine Guillot-Broux's winemaking approach is consistent across all cuvees. The grapes are pressed to barrel for natural fermentations, followed by 11 months of aging. The domaine's commitment to enhancing their winemaking techniques is evident in their impressive releases.

Interestingly, Domaine Guillot-Broux showcases a vast range of terroirs through specific parcels from Cruzille, Grévilly, and Chardonnay villages. The high-density vineyard plantings and different pruning methods contribute to concentrated juice in each grape. This dedication to quality extends to their organic viticulture practices, maintaining balance in their vineyards through natural pest control and fertilizers.

Despite the recent popularity of Macon producers like Guffens-Heynen and Heritiers du Comte Lafon, Domaine Guillot-Broux stands toe-to-toe in quality and offers excellent value, making it a wise choice for smart buyers. This domaine undoubtedly plays a significant role in raising the bar for wines from the Mâcon region.
