Reviews 91-93 points Vinous "The 2021 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs Perrieres Vieilles Vignes, which suffered minor hail damage (10%), is one of Tardy's more fruit intense crus with black cherries and white-tipped strawberry aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with fine grain tannins, taut and quite citrus-fresh and tensile on the finish with admirable length. This is a delightful Gevrey from Guillaume Tardy, contender for his best 2021. (NM)"

About Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils

Based in Vosne-Romanee, Domaine Jean Tardy is an ascendant star of the Cote de Nuits. Helmed by Guillaume Tardy since 2011, it's been an exciting address to follow for the last several years. In 2021, this tiny estate handily navigated the vintage AND implemented the first year of its organic conversion. Yields were down nearly a half, but the grapes were healthy and ripened fully, thanks to intensive vineyard work. Guillaume was one of the first in Burgundy to harvest this year, and his six hectares were fully picked within four days. Grapes were 100% destemmed and given a week-long cold soak, before being gently pressed into oak, with 25-75% new depending on the cuvee. Most saw two winters on the fine lees before bottling. Even with additional punch-downs to reinforce the spine of this vintage, the wines are fresh and lacy. Echezeaux is the obvious star of the lineup, with old vines from 1937 lending incredible depth and presence. Still, as at Leroux, the "lesser" wines will surprise and exceed expectations, from the Cuvee Maelie, drawn from 60-year-old vines above Vosne to Gevrey’s Champerrier, with a third of a hectare of vines dating to 1958. These are serious and deeply engaging wines!
