About Roc Breia (Theo Dancer)
Theo Dancer, an innovative young winemaker, has been making a name for himself in the Burgundy wine scene, while still preserving the traditions and practices that have proven successful. Having already established himself with his eponymous Theo Dancer and Domaine Vincent Dancer wines, Theo is now embarking on an exciting new venture - the Roc Breia project.
Located on a 10.5-hectare plot in Macon, Roc Breia offers Theo a unique opportunity to cultivate a vineyard from scratch. The site was previously farmed conventionally, and Theo describes it as lacking life when he first saw it. Undaunted by this challenge, Theo embraces the chance to apply the farming techniques he learned from his father and breathe new life into the vineyard.
In contrast to the traditional Côte d'Or domaines that produce numerous cuvées, Theo has chosen to keep things simple at Roc Breia, focusing on just two wines: a Chardonnay made from 60+ year old vines and a Pinot Noir made from 35+ year old vines. This simplicity allows Theo to dedicate his full attention to nurturing these vines and creating exceptional wines.
The inaugural wines of Roc Breia are as follows:
Roc Breïa Chardonnay - This Chardonnay is a blend of vineyards from 1944, 1945, 1976, and 1977. It is fermented and aged in large used barrels ranging from 350 to 500 liters, with 6000 bottles produced.
Roc Breïa Pinot Noir - This Pinot Noir is a blend of vineyards from the 1970s to 1985. It is fermented and aged in large 500-liter used barrels, with 4000 bottles produced.
As Theo Dancer continues to evolve and grow as a winemaker, his Roc Breia project showcases his eagerness to learn and innovate, while still honoring the time-tested techniques passed down from previous generations.
