Reviews 93-95 points Wine Advocate "Sensual and perfumed, the 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint-Jacques is a beauty, bursting with notes of sweet wild berries mingled with orange zest, rose petals, peonies, cinnamon and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and supple, it's satiny and layered, with a deep core of fruit and a long, saline finish. (WK)" 93-95 points Burghound "A restrained if exceptionally pretty nose speaks of spiced liqueur-like aromas of various dark berries including cassis, plum and an interesting hint of jasmine tea. There is a really lovely sense of vibrancy to the even more mineral-driven flavors that are blessed with a bit better mid-palate density before concluding in a firm, serious and beautifully persistent finale. This well-balanced and quite powerful effort should easily reward a decade plus of cellaring. (AM)"

About Domaine Fourrier

Domaine Fourrier is a winery that embodies the essence of terroir-driven winemaking. The estate's Pinot Noirs are a testament to the fact that great wine starts in the vineyard. The Domaine's vineyards, situated in some of Gevrey-Chambertin's most fabled sites, are home to 60 to 100-year-old vines that are the backbone of the Domaine's wines. These ancient vines, with deep root systems, accentuate the unique terroir-driven character that is synonymous with Domaine Fourrier.

Fourth-generation owner, Jean-Marie Fourrier, who took over in 1994, is a winemaker with meticulous attention to detail. He is obsessive about fruit quality and will sell any grapes that don't meet his high standards, including grapes coming from vines less than 30 years old. His top wines include Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St. Jacques, Chambertin, Combe aux Moines, and Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses.

In the cellar, Jean-Marie Fourrier uses a minimalist approach, allowing the grapes to express the unique character of the crus they come from. The wines are fermented with native yeasts and aged in mostly used oak barrels for an extended period, resulting in wines with superb balance, enchanting elegance, finesse, and intense aromatic complexity. These wines are undeviating in superiority and, as the Wine Advocate notes, "there can be no overlooking either the consistently excellent results Jean-Marie Fourrier achieves, nor the extreme paucity and remarkable quality" of these wines.
