Reviews 93-95 points Vinous "The 2020 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Cras 1er Cru has a gentle nose, beautifully defined, a mixture of red and blueberry fruit, wilted violet and light undergrowth scents, gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, but firm tannins, fine acidity, quite grippy with firm backbone on the finish with a tang of black pepper on the finish. (NM)" 91-94 points Burghound "A slightly riper nose is composed by notes of rose petal, violet, earth, poached plum and dark berry liqueur-like scents. There is a really lovely sense of underlying tension to the delineated, tautly muscular and intensely mineral-driven flavors that culminate in a dusty, serious and youthfully austere finale where a touch of bitter pit fruit character slowly appears. About Gerard Mugneret

Domaine Gérard Mugneret, located in the heart of Vosne-Romanée just down the street from the renowned Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, is an esteemed winery known for producing some of the most elegant wines in Burgundy. Founded by René Mugneret, the uncle of Dr. Georges Mugneret, the estate shares a familial connection with the neighboring Mugneret-Gibourg estate, which is now managed by Dr. Georges Mugneret's family.

The wines produced at Domaine Gérard Mugneret are characterized as subtle, serene, and gracefully aging, drawing comparisons to esteemed producers like Domaine Lafarge. The 6-hectare estate is now under the guidance of Pascal Mugneret, a descendant of the iconic family, who left his engineering career to return to the family's domaine in 2005. Pascal's leadership has seen the transition to biodynamic practices, though the estate remains uncertified.

Pascal's meticulous approach to viticulture aligns with lunar and planetary cycles, and he is dedicated to limiting tilling and sulfur usage, promoting cover crops, maintaining high hedges, and collaborating with respected peers like Charles Lachaux and Nicolas Faure. His winemaking process incorporates 20 to 100% whole cluster since 2012, utilizing indigenous yeast fermentations without pied de cuve. The wines are gently extracted and aged in oak barrels for 12 to 18 months, with remarkably low sulfur levels well within the range for natural wine.

Pascal's commitment to balance, freshness, and vibrancy has led to significant changes in viticulture and vinification at Domaine Gérard Mugneret. He has separated different cuvées to showcase the uniqueness of each terroir and is devoted to preserving genetic diversity through massal selection and planting a conservatory for future plantings.

The domaine is particularly recognized for its exquisite Vosne-Romanée Village, which embodied the essence of one of Burgundy's finest terroirs. Reflecting on his journey, Pascal acknowledges the delicate balance between control and letting go. Domaine Gérard Mugneret's wines are a testament to Pascal's dedication and passion, solidifying the domaine as one of the brightest stars in the Vosne-Romanee appellation.
