Our Notes

Rudolph Peters has become a legend on the strength of his various Blanc de Blancs, but he used to make a tiny amount of Rose, with a cuvee named for his daughter. 60% is chardonnay from Les Mesnil, with the remainder a saignee of pinot meunier from the 1er Cru Cumieres. Partial malo in steel with 24 months of aging and finished with a low dosage for an elegant, immensely nuanced, red-fruited rose.

Reviews 93 points Wine Advocate "Based on the 2015 vintage and blending Peters's Chardonnay with a saignee of Pinot Meunier from Rene Geoffroy, the latest rendition of the NV Brut Rose for Albane bursts with complex aromas of red apples, pomelo, fresh mint, licorice and shrimp shell. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, delicate and incisive, with a delicate phenolic presence and a sneakily persistent finish. Peters contends that the tannins of Pinot Noir would amplify the austerity of Le Mesnil, hence his decision to work with Pinot Meunier. (WK)" 90 points John Gilman "(Based on the 2018) The wine takes its lovely, deep salmon color from a saignee of the pinot meunier. The vins clairs are aged in stainless steel and the wine is given two years aging sur latte prior to disgorgement. It offers up a bright and nascently complex nose of cherries, rhubarb, chalky soil, lovely floral tones, a nice touch of spice and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and zesty, with a good core of fruit, snappy acids, fine balance, frothy mousse and a long, nascently complex finish. This is still a very young wine and will drink even better with a few years in the cellar. (JG)"

About Pierre Peters

Renowned Champagne producer Pierre Peters epitomizes exquisite craftsmanship, nestled in the heart of the Côte des Blancs. With six generations of winemaking heritage, the estate meticulously cultivates 19 hectares of Chardonnay across esteemed Grand Cru villages, including Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant, and Avize.

The uniqueness of their wines is owed to a distinct Chardonnay clone resulting from a generations-long mass selection. Paired with east-facing hillside vineyards and chalky soils, this yields wines of notable complexity, brimming with notes of exotic fruit, coffee, walnut, and butterscotch. The limited production "Cuvee Speciale Les Chetillons" is noteworthy among their offerings, a symbol of their exceptional craftsmanship.

Proprietor Rodolphe Péters, at the helm since 2008, has continued the tradition of producing sleek Champagnes. Their wines undergo malolactic fermentation, achieving a delicate balance of acidity and minerality. The blending process features a mix of vintage and reserve wines stored in an array of vessels, adding to the wine's distinct character.

Pierre Peters' Champagnes are not just meant for drinking; they are an essential addition to the discerning collector's cellar, promising an experience that evolves and deepens with age. With limited annual production, they encapsulate the allure of tradition, unique terroir, and skillful winemaking.
